The Paterson family

The Paterson family

October 9, 2019Family, Newborn, Backyard0

I had such a fun morning hanging out with these guys! Jayde emailed only a few days prior, hoping to squeeze in a newborn session with their newest arrival, Haze. Luckily, I had a day free that weekend and was able to capture this beautiful family at their home.

Haze’s older brother Hank was not super keen on having photos taken when there was a park nearby to be played in, but soon enough he was very much the hospitable host and even gave me a tour of his room and all his favourite toys, and which of his Lego he loved the most!

This session was seriously such a breeze. Haze was such a little champ and pretty much slept for the entire thing! I felt so comfortable hanging out with this fam and loved witnessing Jayde’s bond with her boys (and her infectious laugh!), and watching Hank and his dad Troy wrestle, as boys love to do! A great way to spend my Sunday morning.

Jayde’s mother and grandmother were also around that morning, and I was so happy I was able to convince them into getting in a picture – 4 generations in one photo is not a regular thing in most family sessions!

Looking forward to capturing more special moments for this fun bunch in the future 😊

If I could only shoot at this location for the res If I could only shoot at this location for the rest of time, I wouldn’t be mad about it 🌿

This is one of my favourite family sessions from last year, with the lovely @carly_skinner_photography and her sweet fam.
And yes, I have been sitting on this goldmine of super cute pics for nearly a year now, because it’s really hard to choose your favourites from over 300 photos 😅

When it comes to family sessions, I think it’s b When it comes to family sessions, I think it’s best to let the kids do their thing; to let the session be guided by them. This session was no different in that aspect. However, it was a new experience for me in that the sweet boy you see in the first image, Jacob, is autistic and non-verbal.

We had plans to shoot in a different location than the one in these photos, however once we started, Jacob wasn’t keen on moving. And you know what? It didn’t matter.
He also wanted to carry a stimmy toy and a can of Pringles around the entire session, to help him feel more comfortable.
Did I care? Not one little bit! 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was happy to do whatever made Jacob and his family more comfortable and at ease.

What matters to me is capturing your kids exactly how they are, in that moment. It’s these little details that make up their unique character and quirky personalities (which are constantly changing, especially in the early years!).
So if they need to bring along that old, battered teddy that they can’t bare to leave at home, let them bring it! Are they refusing to wear anything but that one dress (that you have to sneak into their room at night to grab so you can secretly wash it), because it’s the only piece of clothing they will wear? Let them wear it!
They won’t always be carrying that teddy, and one day that dress will no longer fit them, so let these parts of them be documented as part of their story now, before they, and their story changes 🧡

Sure, a pretty location and outfits are nice, but what matters more, is happy kids and therefore, happy parents. The more relaxed the whole family feels, the better your photos will be ✨

Thanks Jess @aussieautismfamily for having me capture your beautiful family. It was so much fun hanging out with you guys, and just looking back over these photos (and both Jacob and Jazz’s infectious smiles!) gives me all the feels 🥰

Part 2 with the Carson fam ✨ Surely you can no Part 2 with the Carson fam ✨

Surely you can now see why this *had* to be a ‘squeeze in as many images as I possibly can’ two-part post?!
Also, it was a struggle deciding which image to choose to be the first one, with some definitely deserving two whole squares, and sooo many favourites of Sunny 🐶😍 How does a gal decide?!

Which one is your fave? 🥰
