When you and your family have a session with me, I aim to make everyone comfortable and at ease. I don’t want everyone to be sitting there with awkward with cheesy, forced smiles (though don’t worry, we do get the “grandma shot” of everyone looking at the camera – that photo the grandparents want for their wall!).
What I love to capture is the real, authentic and genuine connection between you and your family. Everyone just hanging out and having fun, being themselves – the actual memories you want to keep and remember! To the point where when it ends, you’ll be like “Wait, did we just get photos taken?” I want your session to reflect your time spent as a family, even if I wasn’t there to document it.
I think this session is a perfect example of that.
Sure, dressing up fancy and in co-ordinated outfits is fun if that’s your thing, but maybe it’s not. Maybe your daughter wants to wear that one dress she insists on wearing nearly every day; the one you have to sneak out of her room at night to be able to wash between wears. Along with one of her dad’s watches, which she loves to wear too. These are the things that you’ll want to remember. These little quirks that your kids have for only a short period of time, before they’re onto the next phase and favourite thing.
That’s what I loved about this family. Just in this one meeting, I could tell that Branka and Ben are the type of parents to allow their kids to just be unapologetically themselves. You could sense the freedom these kids felt with their parents. Branka and Ben and their two gorgeous kids, Milla and Luka all have such an obvious, special bond, and it was so nice to witness and be a part of for the afternoon. Another thing I loved, was that Ben and Branka don’t stand back and just watch the kids have fun; they’re right there in the thick of it! Milla and Luka clearly loving it and having a ball.
Seeing the bond between Milla and Luka was something really special too. Sometimes it can be a bit hard to get siblings to even want to stand next to each other, but not these two! They clearly bounce off each other’s energy, both so curious, happy and adventurous. It was clear that Milla looks up to her big brother, and Luka looks out for his little sis.
Check out the pictures of them hugging and just try and tell me your heart didn’t burst from the cuteness!
If all my sessions are as fun and easy as this one, I’ll be a happy chappy!
